MP medical college dean helping Vyapam probe found dead in Delhi

BHOPAL: Dean of NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh — Dr Arun Sharma, was found dead at Uppal hotel in Delhi’s Dwarka on Sunday morning. He had checked into the hotel on Saturday. The body has been sent for postmortem.

Dr Sharma’s predecessor Dr DK Sakalley had also died under mysterious circumstances on July 4 last year.

Dr Sharma had taken charge as dean a month ago and was heading the Radiology department. He was on his way to Agartala as part of an inspection team of Medical Council of India (MCI).

The picture of Jabalpur medical college dean Dr DK Sakalley running out of his home engulfed in flames had sent ripples through the state’s medical fraternity, it had also mirrored heightened anxiety levels of deans of all government medical colleges stung by MPPEB scam probe.

MPPEB scam whistle blowers claim Dr Sharma was also under pressure from students sacked for their alleged role in MPPEB scam, sources told TOI.

Just not Sakalley, dean of Bundelkhand Medical College, Sagar, Dr LP Verma, too had gone on a month’s leave after frequent threats from students terminated for using unfair means.

Dr GS Patel, dean of Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior, had moved higher authorities in the medical education department alleging threat to his life from those involved in MPPEB scam. He also reported the matter at the office of directorate of medical education department.
